Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth has been quietly plodding along on ModDB for a while, generating excitement for those that fondly remember Blizzard’s RTS-RPG hybrid. It aims to recreate Warcraft III in the StarCraft II engine, but with HD models put together from various sources, including WoW. The alpha version, featuring one map and two factions – Orcs and Humans, natch – has now been released through the SC2 Arcade, making it free for everyone, including those who don’t own the base game.

Because it’s 2016, this mod even has a lovely trailer, showing all the different models they’ve managed to put in and how they move about:
Starcraft 2 Warcraft 3 Models
If you want to play it, you can find it by searchingWAA Turtle Rock in the Arcade, as per the announcement post. They’re planning to increase the map count, but for now that’s all there is. It also isn’t fully featured, with the Tavern you may remember from the original game not able to provide the neutral heroes for gold that it used to. Obviously, those models are yet to be implemented.
If you don’t own StarCraft II, well, first off you should, but you can still get access as the Arcade is fully functional in the freeStarter Edition version of the game. Just grab the download from Bnet and you’re good to go.
As for Armies of Azeroth, according to their Facebook the mod and team will be headed to Kickstarter this month. Presumably, that’s next in the plan now the alpha is available as a proof of concept. The exact legalities behind the process might be in debate, but given Blizzard haven’t actively stopped them yet, I assume they’re okay with it. So long as the mod is never charged for, folks being paid for their time spent creating and porting assets for it doesn’t seem dodgy to me.
I think it will do rather well too. There’s a small but loud group of people who have always wanted a Warcraft 4, and I think they’ll happily chuck five bucks towards a HD version of the last game. Personally I’d love to play a visually upgraded version of that campaign, though I wouldn’t be beyond a few balancing changes to make it a bit more fun, which don’t seem to currently be in WAA’s plan.
Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth brings Warcraft 3 into StarCraft 2, as is free now on the StarCraft 2 Arcade. Altium designer download full movie.
It seems that fans of the original Warcraft strategy games (remember those?), who have been waiting patiently for Warcraft 4 may have a little reprieve in the form of an amazing StarCraft 2 mod. Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth, which is now available for free in the SC2 arcade, brings Warcraft 3 into StarCraft 2, with revamped graphics and additional features.
Warcraft 3 Map
Today marks the launch of the mod's alpha, which only contains the 'Turtle Rock' map, but the developers claim that more maps will be added rapidly. Some of the key new features of the remake include:
Additionally, players need only the free StarCraft 2: Starter Edition to play, which effectively means that you can now play Warcraft 3 for free.

Warcraft III‘s mod scene is grossly underrated, I’ve muttered into many a pint glass. Yes, yes, we know it was where MOBAs and tower defense games really took off, but so many more inventive and interesting and weird games bounced around, types of game I haven’t seen since. I always thought this was helped a lot by WC3 having a huge range of units and wildlife and odd art assets folks could repurpose, making mods about more than soldiers. Delightfully, loads of those WC3 bits are now coming to StarCraft II‘s editor, Blizzard have announced. The main Hero units are getting modern makeovers too.
Warcraft bits are now in the test client and will soon come to the main game, Blizzard explained in a blog post yesterday.
“This brings over three thousand new materials for the amazing Arcade development community to work with, including new hero models for the 4 primary races, all of the original Warcraft III models including neutral creatures and their sounds as well as doodads, structures, spell effects, ambient sounds, music and custom user interfaces for each race.”
While models and textures might suffer from being a decade old, they’re still handy, and the sounds, music, and particles will age a lot better. The new hero units are up to SC2’s art standards, but are also weirdly Liefeldian. The Demon Hunter and Keeper of the Grove are rippling with muscles I never knew existed, while the Priestess of the Moon gets a tiny head and huge bazongas. Here, check the before/after comparisons for the Sentinel and Scourge heroes.
I imagine we’ll soon see (even more) projects remaking ye olde Warcraft III and DotA in SC2, but hopefully lots will simply delight in this wider pool of assets with different styles. How very exciting. And because SC2’s custom game Arcade is accessible through the free Starter Edition, all and sundry will get to play these new things. Lovely lovely.
I suspect this is what Blizzard meant when they hinted at a side-project updating Warcraft.
Hey guys!
As the Warcraft 3 assets are now available in the SCII Editor a lot of map makers (including myself) are hyped to try out the new files. But I can't seem to find the new assets in the editor! I downloaded the the PTR and launched the editor, then loaded the Warcraft 3 mod under dependencies - but I can't find the Warcraft 3 units, buildings, doodads etc. anywhere. Have any of you figured out where the files are? Best Regards
Not sure if it Works but someone in the comments on the announcement mentioned a way.
To view the models:
Hi !
I followed these steps and could have a preview of the units and buildings but didn't find how to put them on a map like I can do with starcraft units. Do you know how to do it ? Not sure if it Works but someone in the comments on the announcement mentioned a way. As far as I can see, this is only for previewing the models. I can't find the units in the unit palette, or in the data editor: http://i.imgur.com/cClphlr.png
Just made an Headhunter and there is no premade things yett, maby because some models are not in yett, but you just have to make an new Model and add the asset you desire.
Just double checked, eff the War3_ and War3HD_ bit, just write the unit you desire, some units only got ported the Warcraft 3 graphics but most heroes has new models.
I see. I guess it makes sense that it is only the art assets they ported, not the units themselves. I will look at it when I come home. Thanks for the answer.
You can acces to units just you need another dependency that is on battlenet it called Warcraft III (Data Mod) 1.0 it includes all units that warcraft 3 have, but not all spells, and basic human building build animation is bugged(not finished) (just in actor settings the model is working fine) so you can copy it from orc buildings to work on.
There is an unofficial but working warcraft 3 mod pack that made by a modder Renee, http://eu.battle.net/arcade/en/blog/18486738/arcade-workshop-renees-warcraft-iii-mod-30-03-2015 this mod files are on battlenet too.
You need to search for it through battle.net.
Click 'open' Click the Battle.net tab search file type 'all editor documents' search the word 'Warcraft' Click the 'Warcraft III (Data Mod)' Click 'Download' on the bottom right hand side. Then go and create your map Select arcade or dependent under 'Choose Dependencies' select 'custom' and click 'modify' Under 'add other' you will find the 'Warcraft III (Data Mod)' You can stack it up with whatever other mods. In a word- The standard dependency just adds the files to build WC3 stuff. The Data mod actually has a significant portion of ready-to-use units inside of it.
